Overview

When discussing doctrine amongst Christians, we find that the conversation can often shift to who is 'right' or 'wrong'.  In Romans 14:1 [NIV], the Bible warns us against "quarreling over disputable matters" and to focus instead on loving one another. Our prayer is that we would learn to celebrate what unite us far above what divides us. At Chi Alpha UW-Stevens Point, we abide by the following 16 fundamental truths.

  1. We believe the Scriptures (Bible) are the inspired Word of God and that it is the complete revelation of God’s will for mankind. We believe in the absolute authority of the scripture to govern the affairs of faith & doctrine.

  2. We believe there is one God who is three persons (Trinity), so we yearn to know Him in all of His complexity and beauty.

  3. We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God. We believe in His substitutionary death for all men, His resurrection, and His eventual return to judge the world.

  4. We believe that, throughout history, all have sinned against God, so we are deeply aware that we too are marked by willful disobedience.

  5. We believe in Salvation. God extends forgiveness to us through the atonement of sin through Jesus Christ, so we repent and rejoice in our forgiveness.

  6. We believe that God offers freedom from sin’s grasp through an ongoing process called Sanctification, so we continue to surrender ourselves daily to live lives that are pleasing to God.

  7. We believe that Jesus promised every believer the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, which is to be expected and sought after.

  8. We believe in Healing. We believe the laying on of hands in prayer can heal someone physically, emotionally, and mentally.
  1. We believe that The Initial Evidence of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit is primarily experienced in the act of speaking in tongues, and we eagerly seek this gift.
  1. We believe in the Church as the eternal and universal Body of Christ consisting of all those who have accepted the work of Christ’s  atonement. We believe in the need for a local assembly of believers for the purpose of evangelism to unbelievers and edification of the Body of Christ..
  1. We believe God appoints leaders as gifts to His Church to help carry out The Work of the Ministry (Evangelism, Worship, Equipping the Saints, & Meeting Human Needs), so we serve those whom the Lord entrusts to us.
  1. We believe God commands his followers to celebrate Communion and Baptism, so we practice these symbolic actions, reflecting on their significance.
  1. We believe in The Blessed Hope that Jesus will return again to claim His Church, so we live in eager expectancy of His coming.
  1. We believe that there is a day coming when Jesus will reign as King on earth, so we live as citizens of His Kingdom now.
  1. We believe God is the ultimate Judge, so we live knowing that our choices will echo through eternity.
  1. We believe we will live with God forever in a New Heaven & New Earth, so we live with hope regardless of our circumstances.
